Happy Independence Day

What price would you be willing to pay to maintain your American lifestyle?

Would you dedicate an hour a day to educating yourself on the issues? Would you spend a Tuesday afternoon waiting in line to vote? How about volunteering your time to make your community a better place to live?

Would you spend a year or more wearing full battle gear in triple digit desert heat? Would you enter a burning building or chase after a violent criminal? Would you risk your own life? Would you be willing to mourn the loss of your child?

None of these things are mandatory. If you were born in this country and never bothered to leave, you're an American. Go to work, pay your taxes, passively live your American life. That's pretty much all that's required.

So for those who care so much about this country that they are willing to argue and debate about it, and put their time and energy into it and lay their lives down for it, I'd like to take a moment this Independence day to appreciate you for actively seeking to make all of our American lives better.
